A Theory that changed the way I look at life

A theory that changed the way I look at life

For four years, I dedicated myself to becoming an IAS officer, seeing it as the sole path to a successful and happy life. Despite multiple attempts, I was unsuccessful. My sister challenged my narrow focus, encouraging me to explore other opportunities, and highlighted that my happiness and fulfillment shouldn't be tied to a single exam.

Following her advice, I began searching for jobs on LinkedIn. Surprisingly, I received a call from a Political PR company for an interview for a Business Development Executive position. Although it was outside my familiar territory, I attended the interview. To my surprise, the HR team saw potential in my civil service preparation and offered me the role of Strategist and Team Leader instead.

Today, I lead and hire a diverse team, each member bringing unique qualities and experiences. Together, we excel in our field, transforming our collective past struggles into strengths. My journey from aspiring IAS officer to successful team leader has taught me that success is not a single, narrow path but a broader journey defined by learning, growth, and collaboration.

I owe my gratitude to my sister for pushing me beyond my comfort zone. While I didn’t become an SDM, I succeeded in life by embracing new opportunities and leveraging the skills I developed during my preparation. I now view my previous efforts not as failures but as valuable lessons that contributed to my current success and fulfillment.

My journey from aspiring IAS officer to successful team leader in a Political PR company has imparted several invaluable life lessons.

  1. Flexibility in Defining Success: Initially, I believed success was solely tied to becoming an IAS officer. This rigid definition led to frustration and isolation. Through this experience, I learned that success can take many forms. It's essential to remain open to different opportunities and redefine success based on evolving circumstances and new possibilities.

  2. Embracing Failure as a Learning Tool: The repeated setbacks in the civil services exams were disheartening, but they ultimately became my greatest teachers. Each failure honed my decision-making abilities, strategic mindset, and resilience. I learned that failures are not endpoints but stepping stones to personal and professional growth.

  3. The Power of Adaptability: Transitioning to a new field and embracing a role outside my expertise demonstrated the importance of adaptability. It highlighted that skills are transferable, and with an open mind, one can excel in diverse environments.

  4. Value of Support Networks: My sister's encouragement was pivotal in shifting my perspective and exploring new avenues. This taught me the significance of having a supportive network that challenges and motivates you to push beyond self-imposed limits.

  5. Leveraging Past Experiences: The years spent preparing for the civil services were not wasted. Instead, they equipped me with critical skills such as strategic thinking, leadership, and perseverance, which I now apply in my current role. This experience reinforced the idea that every endeavor, regardless of its immediate outcome, adds value to your journey.

  6. Collaboration and Team Dynamics: Leading a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds and struggles underscored the importance of collaboration. I learned that success in any field is often a collective effort, enriched by the unique contributions of each team member.

In conclusion, this journey has transformed my understanding of success and failure. It has taught me to view challenges as opportunities for growth, to remain adaptable, and to appreciate the value of a strong support network. These lessons have not only enhanced my professional life but also enriched my personal outlook, leading to a more fulfilling and balanced life.
